No commitment. No pressure. Just answers to the questions most people are too nervous to ask.
A lot of veterans — especially younger ones — have never set foot in a VFW post. The image in their head might be a smoky room full of World War II guys who all know each other. That's not what Post 7760 looks like.
We're a working post. Veterans of all ages, all branches, all eras. Some come to the meetings. Some just show up for events. Some are here for the community, some for the resources, some just because they needed a place where people get it. All of that is fine.
If you've ever thought about coming by — or wondered if you'd even fit in — this page is for you.
Yes. The post hall is open during events and meetings. You don't need an appointment, an invitation, or anyone's permission to show up.
If you want to attend a post meeting, you're welcome to come and observe. Members and officers are used to new faces and are happy to talk. The best way to get a feel for the post is to just come by.
No. You don't need to be a member to attend public events or to visit the hall. Many people come by for months before they decide to join — or they join right away. Either is fine.
Membership is required to vote in post matters and hold office, but it's not a requirement to walk through the door.
No. Post 7760 has members who served in Vietnam, the Gulf War, Iraq, Afghanistan, and beyond. Veterans from every era are welcome here.
If you're a younger vet and you've never seen yourself in the VFW, we'd ask you to give us a chance. The organization has been working to better represent veterans of all generations, and posts like ours are part of that change.
Absolutely. Families are welcome at post events. Spouses, partners, and family members of veterans can also become members of the VFW Auxiliary — a separate but connected organization that works alongside the post on community and veteran support.
Post 7760 has an active Auxiliary. Their meetings are held the same evening as post meetings at 6:00 PM. If your family wants to be involved, there's a place for them.
Yes. You're welcome to bring a friend to events and community gatherings. VFW posts are part of the community, not just for veterans.
For formal post meetings, it's courteous to let someone know you're bringing a guest, but it's not a hard rule. When in doubt, just reach out to us ahead of time.
Post meetings follow a standard agenda — call to order, roll call of officers, reading of minutes, treasurer's report, committee updates, old business, new business, and adjournment. It sounds formal, but in practice it's a working meeting between people who know each other. A typical meeting draws 10–15 members.
Meetings cover things like upcoming events, community initiatives, post finances, and anything members want to raise. They typically run about an hour. Post meetings are the second Wednesday of every month at 6:00 PM at the post hall, 2803 Monnier Street.
After the meeting, the bar is open. A lot of the real conversation happens then. If you want to observe before committing to anything, that's completely normal and welcome.
VFW membership requires service overseas in a designated combat zone or receipt of a qualifying campaign medal. If you're not sure whether your service qualifies, don't let that stop you from coming by.
Post officers and members have helped a lot of veterans figure out their eligibility. Sometimes it takes a DD-214 and a quick check. Sometimes people are surprised to find out they do qualify.
And if it turns out you don't qualify for VFW membership, we can point you toward other veteran organizations in the area that may be a better fit.
That's exactly what we'd encourage. Come to an event. Have a conversation. See if it feels like somewhere you want to be.
Nobody is going to pressure you to join, sign anything, or commit to anything. If it's for you, you'll know. If it's not, no hard feelings.
The post hall at 2803 Monnier Street is more than a meeting room. It's a gathering place open to members, veterans, and the community.
A full-service bar open during events and after meetings. Pull tabs and electronic pull tab machines on site.
A pool table in the hall. Come early, stay late.
Karaoke on weekends. Whether you sing or just listen, it's a good time.
Pa's Express Chickens operates out of the post. Food available to everyone — no membership required.
Coming for the first time is the hardest part. Here's what typically happens:
Come through the front door. You don't need to announce yourself or explain why you're there. Someone will likely say hello pretty quickly.
Let someone know it's your first time. You'll likely be introduced to a few people, shown around, and told what's going on that evening.
That's it. No pitch, no pressure, no obligation. Stay as long as you want. Ask questions if you have them. Come back if it feels right.
Call or email us directly. There's no dumb question, and no sales pitch waiting on the other end. Just a post that wants more veterans to know they have a home here.
